DFI support to Lars von Trier’s new film

by

The Danish Film Institute has just awarded a DKK 7m grant to Lars von Trier’s new film t.o. Direktøren For Den Hele (My Man The President) which will start shooting on February 20, 2006.

Von Trier’s return to a Danish speaking film is a comedy (see Cineuropa other news) focusing on the owner of a IT company who wants to sell up. The trouble is that when he started the company, he invented a president to hide behind when unpopular decisions had to be made. But when potential buyers insist on negotiating with the president face to face, the owner hires a mediocre actor to play the part.
French actor Jean-Marc Barr, a long time friend to Lars von Trier has joined the all Danish cast comprising Jens Albinus and Peter Gantzler in the lead roles. Produced by Vibeke Windeløv, Signe Jensen and Meta Louise Foldager for Zentropa Entertainment, the film has already been pre-sold to a dozen territories by Trust Film Sales, and its Danish release is set for the summer 2007.
