Falcone and Borsellino on the screen
Documentary film In un altro Paese (In Another Country), by director Marco Turco, is coming to theatres this February (and on DVD in March). The film, which is being distributed by Fandango, was produced by DOCLAB, gained much audience and critical success at last year’s Locarno Film Festival (where it was screened in the Filmmakers of the Present section) and won Best Italian Documentary at the recent Festival dei Popoli.
Written by Vania Del Borgo and Turco, in collaboration with US writer/journalist Alexander Stille (author of the book Excellent Cadavers: The Mafia and the Death of the First Italian Republic" ), the documentary examines the relationship between the Sicilian Mafia and Italy during the first years of the Republic. The film revolves around the story of the mega-trial in Palermo and the two judges who made it possible, Giovanni Falcone and Paolo Borsellino. It is the story of a resounding victory in the fight against the Mafia, the biggest anti-Mafia trial ever held. And it is also the story of a slow, inevitable death. More than ten years after the murders of the two great judges, In un altro Paese offers a disturbing portrait of the ties between the Mafia and Italian politicians, which still continue today.
The documentary was developed with the support of BBC Storyville and the EU’s MEDIA Programme.
