French-Spanish Encounters in Paris
Based on the model of the annual French-German event whose 3rd edition took place last November, Unifrance organises the first French-Spanish Cinema Encounters from the 18th to the 19th January in Paris. Supported by the CNC and the Instituto de la Cinematografía y de las Artes Audiovisuales (ICAA) whose heads (Véronique Cayla and Fernando Lara) will be present for the opening, The Parisian event confirms the rise in the influence of constructive relations between the professionals in the big markets of the 7th art in Europe, confirmed too by the successful launch in Rome in June 2005 of the French-Italian Meetings.
On the programme for Wednesday the 18th are three roundtables. The first, dedicated to a review of the state of French-Spanish co-productions (9 in 2005), will see the contributions of the producers Yves Marmion (UGC YM), Eric Nevé (La Chauve Souris), Thomas Langmann (La Petite Reine), Francisco Casal (Continental Producciones), Juan Gordon (Morena Films) and Antonio Saura (Zebra Producciones). The second debate will deal with the distribution of films in the respective countries, with talks from the likes of Régine Vial (Les Films du Losange), Adolfo Blanco (Notro Films), Carole Scotta (Haut et Court), Mima Fleurent (Colifilms), Enrique González Macho (Alta Films), Andrés Martin (Vertigo Films) and José Maria Morales (Wanda Vision). The day will end on the topic the role of TV in the financing of European film production and distribution , a roundtable including Manuel Alduy (Canal +), Pierre Héros (France 2 Cinéma), Jaime Boix (TVE - Televisión Española), Jordi Serra (TV3), Álvaro Agustín (Tele 5), Alain Terzian (president of the Union of Film Producers) and Fabia Buenaventura (director general of the FAPAE). Thursday 19th January will start with a pitch session between producers before debates concentrating on regional action in development and in co-production, then on the distribution and exhibition of digital cinema in Europe. Also, there will be an evaluation of the possibility of an event featuring Spanish film in Paris and an equivalent shop-window in Madrid for French production.
