Cristina Comencini: "Incapable of programming"

is one of the five films competing for the Best Foreign Language Film Oscar. "I just came back from Los Angeles," said the director during the presentation of the nominees for the 2006 Nastri d’argento (Silver Ribbon) Awards in Rome, "and we had a great response at the audience screening, but the preparations, from an organizational perspective, were delayed. We once again showed ourselves to be incapable of programming". No victimization here, even though this is a difficult moment for Italian cinema as a result of the recent cuts to the Visual Arts Fund (FUS): “We don’t want that money anymore, but a new law, like in France, that no longer renders us beggars”. Responding to a question from Cineuropa, the director added: "The FUS is only supposed to be used for debut and second feature films, and marketing".
