Fridell, Hultberg and Edholm get SFI support

In its latest round of production support, the Swedish Film Institute has supported six feature films for a total of SEK11.8m (€1,2m), with the biggest amount going to Swedish actor-turned director Rafael Edholm’s film Babar’s Bilar (Babar’s Cars) (€700,352). Ulf Hultberg’s new political drama Svarta Nejlikan (The Black Carnation) was awarded €377,121 and Daniel Fridell’s Säg att du älskar mig (Say You Love Me) €80,811.

Babar’s Cars is an action comedy starring Andreas Wilson (Evil) and Sara Sommerfeld (Wings of Glass). The film produced by Nordisk Film in co-production with Filmpool Nord and Kanal 5 will be released in Sweden on March 31rst.
The Black Carnation is based on the life of Swedish diplomat Harald Edelstam who helped refugees in Chile after General Pinochet’s military coup, offering them political asylum. Swedish star Michael Nyqvist (As It Is In Heaven) takes the lead in this Swedish/Danish/Mexican/Chilean co-production which started shooting on January 19th in Chile. Swedish distribution will be handled by Nordisk Film.

Say You Love Me is a drama about a group of youngsters who experiment with love and sex until their sexual game leads to violence. The director Daniel Fridell had already portrayed youth with social problems in his award-winning film Beneath The Surface (1997). The film is the first film produced by Noble Production, the production arm of the fast expanding Scandinavian distribution company Noble Entertainment. Other backers include Digital Film Finland, Cinestar Sweden, Filmpool Nord, Canal + and Myndform in Iceland.
