Calopresti’s Italian Shoah

The testimonies of nine Italian concentration camps survivors have been gathered in Why? (Volevo solo vivere), the Italian language documentary by Mimmo Calopresti, co-produced by RAI Cinema and Steven Spielberg’s USC Shoa Foundation Institute, out this Friday in theatres.

The documentary, which will screen today in Rome’s Auditorium on the occasion of Holocaust Remembrance Day, was presented at the Casa del Cinema by the director, alongside Mayor Walter Veltroni and Mark Edwards, producer of the Shoah Foundation Institute.

The 75 minute docu-film will be shown in schools and, as confirmed by RAI Cinema’s Managing Director, Giancarlo Leone, “it will later air on TV and come out as a DVD''. The theatrical release has been planned for only selected cities. On the possibility of a wider distribution, Leone said: ''We will appeal to exhibitors’ sensibilities”.
