Coixet's melodrama heads Goyas

was the grand winner of the 20th Goyas ceremony, winning four out of the five awards for which it was nominated, including Best Film, Best Director, Best Original Script and Best Diretor of Production (Esther Garcia). Produced by El Deseo, Coixet's English-spoken melodrama starring Tim Robbins and Sarah Polley, stole the limelight from Montxo Armendáriz's Obaba, which received one Goya (Best Sound) out of the ten for which it had been nominated.

With three awards out of nine nominations, Fernando León's Princesses was another of the night's winners. The film's leading actresses Candela Peña and Micaela Nevárez went up on stage to collect the Goyas for Best actress and Best New Actress. Manu Chao, who composed the film theme "Me llamen calle", was awarded with the Goya for Best Original Song. As for male performances, Óscar Jaenada, who played flamenco singer Cámaron in Jaime Chávarri's acclaimed biopic, won the Goya for Best Actor, while Carmelo Gómez (The Gronholm Conspiracy) and Jesús Carroza (7 Virgens) were chosen, respectively, Best Supporting Actor and Best New Actor.

José Corbacho and Juan Cruz were awarded Best New Directors with box office hit Tapas. The Goya for the Best Adapted script went to José Luis Garci and Horacio Valcárcel for Ninette.

in the Best European Film category. Woody Allen's sister, who received the award from Maribel Verdú and French actor José García said the American director was proud of "feeling like an European director".
The Goya of Lifetime achievement went to producer and director Pedro Masó.
