Cristina Comencini met with the press shortly after receiving the news of her nomination, accompanied by her leading lady, Giovanna Mezzogiorno, and producers Giancarlo Leone of RAI Cinema and Riccardo Tozzi of Cattleya. "We Italians always think we have no chance in the competitions,” said Comencini. “That our products aren’t good enough. Actually, since taking the film to America I have received nothing but praise. Even the president of Warner Bros. emailed to tell me how extraordinary this film is".
This nomination is significant for all female directors. Said Comencini: "I am part of a new generation that, together with producers, has recreated a relationship with audiences, compelling them to return to the theatres. We were capable of moving people. This means that the tides are turning".
Don’t Tell, which recently came out on DVD, will return to theatres in Italy’s main cities. The General Direction for Cinema of the Cultural Ministry has guaranteed the film further economic support until Oscar night, March 5, 2006.
