Sex and the City Budapest-style


Released in Hungarian cinemas in December, the romantic comedy from Krisztina Goda will be screened at this week's 37th Hungarian Film Week in Budapest. With over 300,000 tickets sold in nine weeks, Just Sex and Nothing Else (Csak szex és más semmi) is having an exceptional run for a Hungarian film. Along with its theatrical success, the film has been considered by critics as one of the rare, if not the only, "quality" Hungarian comedies in recent years in the category of "singles/generational films".

Discovering that her lover is already married, Dora, a 30 year-old playwright, decides to give up on men. She focuses on satisfying her own desire to have a child and starts to look for a donor. First left to chance, her search then narrows to the men around her, at the theatre at which she works and the kebab stand near home.

Just Sex... brings together some of Hungarian's current stars: Sandor Csanyi (Kontroll [+see also:

, Relatives), Kata Dobo (Basic Instinct 2, Rollerball) and the film's lead, Judit Schell, who recently received the Hungarian Film Critics' Award for Best Female Role for her turn as Dora. The director, Krisztina Goda, who studied editing and directing at the London National Film and Television School and screenwriting at UCLA made her first feature after six shorts and one documentary. Produced by Gabor Kalomista (Megafilm Ltd), a successful producer of commercial films, with a budget of about €1.3m, Just Sex and Nothing Else was co-produced by the private Hungarian broadcaster RTL Klub- Magyar Televízió, with the support of HVG magazine and several sponsors. As his film has been classified as commercial, Kalomista is not really expecting to be awarded a prize during Hungarian Film Week, but he has already said that Goda’s film by will enjoy an international run...
