€3.2m for Depardieu in 2005

by

The years pass but little changes for Gérard Depardieu, who once more heads the list of the best paid actors in France, according to an annual survey by the daily Le Figaro. Picking up €3.2m for four films in 2005, the actor maintained his 2004 earnings level (see news).

Depardieu is joined on the podium for 2005 by Jean Reno (€2.3 for one film, Empire of the Wolves) and Christian Clavier (€1.8m). They are followed by Jean Dujardin with €1.6m for Brice de Nice, Daniel Auteuil (€1.4m), Gérard Lanvin (€1.3m), Benoît Magimel (€1.3m), Gad Elmaleh (€1.2m) and the top-earning actress Josiane Balasko, who received €1m through her multiple pay packets (as screenwriter, director, co-producer and actress) for The Ex-Wife of My Life. The Top 10 for 2005 is topped off by Michael Youn (€900,000), while the actors who made the best progress for the year were Clovis Cornillac and Romain Duris (13th and 14th in the rankings).

As for the actresses, their earnings remain inferior to their male counterparts. Balasko is followed by Karin Viard (€834,000), Mathilde Seigner (€800,000), Catherine Frot (€700,000), Sophie Marceau (€690,000), Valérie Lemercier (€680,000), Nathalie Baye (€650,000), Charlotte Gainsbourg (€620,000), Vanessa Paradis (€500,000) and Juliette Binoche (€450,000). This list offers just a partial view of the stars’ salaries as they will earn their profit shares over the coming years.
