An Austrian version of Halloween
December 5th: Day of the Devils (Die glühenden Augen am 5.Dezember), by Elmar Weihsmann, started shooting this month in Feldkirchen, Austria.
This English language, 35mm thriller is an alpine version of the myth of Halloween and was inspired by the local legend of the Perchten, the demons that accompany St. Nicholas. Attractive, young reporter Penelope Jones (Christine Dune) has been asked to shoot a documentary on the Perchtenlauf festival, but her research leads her to uncover a long-concealed crime in which many of the most important townspeople are involved.
The script was written by Weihsmann and co-writer Stefan Peczelt, with whom he also collaborated on the noir Das Schweigen einer Sommernacht. Together, the two have already created a gory, sexy style that they themselves acknowledge perpetuates the Italian tradition of horror and crime movies.
Also starring Monica Baci, Emil Moone, Robert Cleaner and Werner Wultz, the film was produced by Tigerline, with additional financing provided by Funfilminvest. Likely to attract foreign distributors, December 5th: Day of the Devils is being sold by US company Silverline Entertainment.
