Rohtenburg release postponed
A Frankfurt court has decided that the March 9 release of Rohtenburg by distribution company Senator should be postponed. Martin Weisz’s thriller was inspired by the true story of "the Rohtenburg cannibal", Armon Meiwes, who is currently on trial for his crimes, and the court ruled in favour of respecting Meiwes’ private life over free artistic expression.
Produced by Marco Weber of Atlantic Streamline, Rohtenburg is the story of an American student (Keri Russell) who bases her criminal psychology thesis on Oliver Hartwin, knows as "the cannibal", who seeks out his victims in the Internet classifieds. The film also stars Thomas Kretschmann and Thomas Huber.
If Senator does not respect the tribunal’s decision, they risk a €250,000 fine and six months in prison.
