Winner of the Un certain regard section at the 2003 Cannes Film Festival, a 2004 David di Donatello and a Nastro d’Argento for Best Directing, The Best of Youth was released to both critical and audience success in the US.
In late December, the New York Times called Giordana’s film "the best film of 2005". The week, news magazine Time described it as an intellectual delight: "This is old-fashioned filmmaking…at its most seductive. For once, a film that deserves the adjective ‘epic’".
