KussKuss shows maverick spirit

by

Already honoured with the Babelsberger Medienpreis and screened at the Montreal World Film Festival, Amiens Film Festival and Film-Kunst-Fest at Schwerin, KussKuss, the debut feature by Sören Senn, has received the Maverick Spirit Award, the top prize at the Cinequest Film Festival (March 1-12) in San Jose, California.

A German/Swiss co-production by the director’s company, Hochschule für Film und Fernsehen "Konrad Wolf" of Postdam-Babelsberg, and Novapool Production, KussKuss captivated the Cinequest Film Festival jury with its narrative precision, revealing a "sensibility [that] is hampered by neither consternation nor sentimentality".

The film was warmly received by audiences in San Jose, whose proximity to the Mexican border creates illegal immigration problems. KussKuss tells the story of the effects of the intrusion of a young Algerian into the lives of a Germany university couple and offers a brutal image of the disparity in social conditions.

The film will be released in May in Germany and in Switzerland in the summer by Cineworx.
