BUFF votes for Love + Hate

Dominic Savage’s Love + Hate won The City of Malmö´s Children and Young People´s Film Award with a €5,500 cash prize at the BUFF Festival, which ended last Saturday. The UK filmmaker beat out seven other contenders, including Josef Fares’ Swedish film Zozo [+see also:

, which took the BUFF Youth Jury Award.

Love + Hate continues its festival run, which started at Berlin’s Panorama section in 2005. The Romeo and Juliet love story set against a backdrop of racial tension in an industrial city in Northern England stars Tom Hudson and Samina Awan. The film was produced by Neris Thomas and Alison Owen of Ruby Films, with co-financing from the UK Film Council and BBC Films. Dominic Savage’s The Works is handling international sales and European territories that have acquired the film include the UK (where the film will be released on May 5 by Verve Pictures) and Italy (IIF).
