...e se domani: From reality to film

by

Ten years ago in Milan, a man walked into a bank and held its employees hostage for 48 hours, before giving himself up. After being placed under house arrest, he asked the judge to be returned to a cell because he could not stand living with the woman for whom he had attempted the robbery.

Producer Beppe Caschetto of ITF Movie has made a film from this bizarre news story, ...e se domani (lit. “…and if tomorrow”), shot by emerging director Giovanni La Pàrola. The film stars Luca Bizzarri and Paolo Kessisoglu, comic actors who became famous through the television programme "Le iene", alongside Sabrina Impacciatore. ...e se domani won the Special Jury Prize for the Best Actor and Actress Awards at the 2005 Annecy Film Festival.

With a budget of €2m, the film was financed by RTI-Mediaset and will be distributed by Medusa on over 100 screens on April 13. "I read a book about the event and thought of Luca and Paolo, with whom I’d already made Let’s Mambo! and Tandem", said Caschetto, who denounced an eternal dilemma: "Luckily, I received support from Mediaset, but the problem for Italian films is distribution, which looks more to foreign films".
