Local films hit jackpot at B.O.

The biggest Scandinavian territories – Sweden, Denmark and Norway – enjoyed the presence of two to three domestic films in last weekend’s Top 5 Box office/admissions chart, a much needed boost for local film production, in particular in Sweden and Norway, where their respective 2005 domestic market share dropped by 1% from 23.5% to 22.5% and from 15% to 14%.
Denmark, on the other hand, will probably beat its own 2005 record local market share of 32.4% this year, thanks to Pernille Fischer Christensen’s A Soap [+see also:

In Sweden, Colin Nutley’s new comedy drama Heartbreak Hotel [+see also:

film profile] took second position at the Top 5 local chart in its second week of release through Svensk Filmindustri. The comedy drama follows two divorced 40-something women (Helena Bergström, Nutley’s long-time partner, and Maria Lundqvist) who go hunting for new love in nightclubs and bars. The film grossed an extra €406,000 from 104 screens, for a total of €1.2m. It was produced by Nutley’s production company Sweetwater and sold internationally by Svensk Filmindustri.
Baba’s Cars [+see also:

film profile], which took the fifth position last weekend in its opening weekend, with a €60,000 gross from 31 screens, is an action comedy by Rafael Edholm. The film stars Andreas Wilson and Sara Sommerfeld and was produced by Nordisk Film, in co-production with Filmpool Nord. Nordisk Film is handling domestic and international distribution.
