TRAINING Europe

Young producers grow up

by

There is a new training programme for the development of audiovisual projects, backed by the EU’s MEDIA Programme, for young European producers – in particular, those from Mediterranean and Eastern European countries, and from regions with low audiovisual production potential.

The programme is comprised of the Maia Workshops and was organised by FabulaFilm in collaboration with Italy’s National Film School, Minimum Fax and Zone attive. Maia is dedicated to studying the strategies and instruments necessary to coherently and efficiently managing the development phase of international audiovisual projects, in its overall creative and managerial aspects.

The programme will unfold in 2006 through two, week-long workshop (the first will take place in Ancona from May 29-June 3), and three short seminars held in cities strategic to European film culture and production – Madrid (April 21-22), Budapest (June) and Rome (October).

The teachers involved in the project were selected from among Europe’s top European audiovisual industry professionals and the subjects taught include creative development (project research, working on the cinematic text and the creative team); understanding a project’s strong points and its potential on international markets; the use of digital technologies for pre-marketing; seeking out public and private funds and financing available in Europe and how to access them; and the creative potential of digital innovations in writing and filmmaking for European films of the future.
