Conversa da treta: From stage to screen

by

Shooting began today in Lisbon on Conversa da treta (lit. "Nonsense Conversation") by José Sacramento. Based on a play that became one of the greatest hits in Portugal's recent theatrical history, the film is expected to make a splash in October, when LNK will release it on domestic screens.

Conversa da treta reunites actors José Pedro Gomes and António Feio with the hilarious thoughts shared by their famous characters Zézé and Tony. Written by Eduardo Madeira and Filipe Homem Fonseca, from Produções Fictícias, the film, however, has not been announced as a typical adaptation of the two-man play, but rather as an expansion of its world, with new scenes and dialogues written for even more characters.

"In the play, there was a whole universe surrounding the characters, but there was no place for other actors, who will now appear on the screen. Nevertheless, the plot is still focused on the two characters, and their conversing remains the most important thing", said scriptwriter Eduardo Madeira".

Besides Gomes and Feio, the amazing cast includes some of the top names of national comedy, such as Maria Rueff, Ana Bola, José Raposo, Rui Paulo, Joaquim Nicolau, Carlos Curto, Bruno Nogueira and Manuel Marques.

Filmmaker Leonel Vieira (Um Tiro No Escuro), who is producing the film for his own company Stopline Films, stressed the film’s potential for success: "The play has been seen by over 1,200 people, from the north to the south, which shows that very diverse audiences are greatly interested in it".
