Vladimir Luxuria: Politics at the movies
Twenty-four years ago she became a Deputy, after an electoral campaign that subjected her to verbal aggressions from the right, and today Vladimir Luxuria, the first transsexual to enter Parliament, made an appearance at the Casa del Cinema in Rome as an actress, to present Mater natura, directed by Massimo Andrei.
The film, produced by Kubla Khan, to be released by Istituto Luce on April 21, takes us into the transsexual community of Naples, where young Desiderio (Maria Pia Calzone), who works as a prostitute and dances in discos, falls in love with Andrea (Valerio Foglia Manzillo) and decides to change his life.
Vladimir Luxuria is Massimino, Desideria’s transsexual friend who is fighting for his rights. "This film will be good for all those who want to better understand the ‘trans’ world without any morbidity", said the politician/actress. Luxuria added: "Shooting the film, I realised how important cinema’s role is. In Mater Natura, [we] try to give the spectator a different cognitive approach, more realistic and less scandal-mongering. And I have to admit that the character I play is somewhat similar to me: definitely for the political activism, and the desire to concretely tackle important issues like prostitution and civil rights ".
