Martichka Bozhilova wins at Cannes

by

Martichka Bozhilova, producer of the Bulgarian documentary Georgi and the Butterflies, is one of the winners of the International Trailblazers Award at Cannes.

The award was founded this year for the international MipDoc market, to promote the new creative trends within the documentary genre. Along with Bozhilova, other prizewinners include directors Alan Berliner (US), Khalo Matabane (South Africa) and Trinh Minh-ha (China). The awards were handed out by Robert Redford, founder of the Sundance Film Festival, which sponsors the International Trailblazers. Georgi and the Butterflies – which tells of one psychiatrist’s work to build a farm near his clinic, situated in a 16th century monastery 20 km from Sofia – already won the Silver Wolf Award at Amsterdam in 2004 and other prizes at the Sarajevo and Krakow Film Festivals.
