Mr Bean on the Croisette
by Annika Pham
Rowan Atkinson will go to Cannes on May 15 for the filming of the second feature-length adventures of the character he created with Richard Curtis, Bean II, a Working Title Films production in association with Tiger Aspect
The world famous UK comic character will indeed make the trip from London to the Riviera for a simple holiday in the sun. As usual, however, he will create havoc wherever he goes, and his misadventures will culminate in an unscheduled and riotous screening of his own video diary at the Cannes Film Festival. The film will be directed by Steve Bendelack (The League of Gentlemen's Apocalypse) from a screenplay by Robin Driscoll and Hamish McColl based on a story by Simon McBurney.
Mr. Bean was first launched on UK television by Tiger Aspect in 1990 and Rowan Atkinson became an international star thanks to his grumpy and almost silent character who seduced over 200 countries around the world. The comic character’s first big film appearance, Bean: The Ultimate Disaster Movie, was also produced by Working Title and grossed over €223m worldwide. Universal Pictures will release the film worldwide.
