The A to Z of Cannes
Along with from the official selection unveiled yesterday, the 59th Cannes Film Festival (May 17-28) will, as every year, be host to several events.

film profile], won the French composer a Silver Bear at Berlin in 2005 (see article). Other notable events will be an acting class held by Gena Rowlands (May 19) and a film class by Sydney Pollack (May 25).
With three features and nine shorts, it is Switzerland’s turn to host the 2nd Tous les Cinémas du Monde (May 20-26), which will explore the diversity of world cinema, featuring films from Russia, Israel, Singapore, Venezuela, Tunisia and Chile. Moreover, the workshop organised by Cinéfondation, has selected 18 feature films (see news ) in order to help them secure financing at the festival.
As for the Cannes Film Market – the most important international market for film industry professionals – it will be larger than ever, with the 10,000 participants record expected to be broken, 1,400 screenings featured in the programme and 400 exhibitors.
The Producers Network, a joint initiative between the Cannes Festival and Market created in 2004, will this year host 500 producers from the world over. At several round table discussions, producers will have the opportunity to exchange their points of view and to make contacts with the aim of making co-productions more dynamic.
Lastly, Cannes will be busier than ever this year with 11 new countries eager to promote their films at the International Village. Participants include Hungary, Greece, Bulgaria, Croatia, Romania, Serbia and Slovenia.
