Marco Müller: "An exceptional year for Italian cinema"
With Cannes just around the corner and other international festivals doubling their efforts to seek out interesting films and new trends, CinecittàNews interviewed Marco Müller, director of the Venice Film Festival (August 30-September). "This is an exceptional year for Italian cinema,” says Müller "and the strongest films have been confirmed at the Silver Ribbons and the David di Donatello awards. Then the titles that are coming up are totally different to the ones the public has chosen to go see and those that cinema professionals and critics have selected for prizes. So finally this is an exceptional year, also because it is no longer the case that there are 10 Italian films with different approaches and styles, there are now 50 such films".

Moretti's film, commented the Venice director, "is certainly one of the films of the year as far as everyone in Italian cinema is concerned. Then the choice of Sorrentino's new work only goes to prove his rising status as one of the significant directors on the domestic and international scene.
