Nachbeben continues its course
Winner in the Best Film category at the 23rd Viareggio Film Festival (see news), Nachbeben (Dschoint Ventschr Filmproduktion , Zurich) will be presented in competition at the 16th Filmkunst Fest de Schwerin in Germany (May 3-7).
Discovered at the opening of Switzerland’s Journées de Soleure 2006 – a showcase for domestic films – and shown in the Panorama section of last year’s Berlinale, this debut feature from local filmmaker Stina Werenfels was released at the beginning of March in German-speaking Switzerland, where it passed the 10,000 admissions-mark after only two weeks on four screens.
Nachbeben is a tale of the fall from grace of a banker that has an affair with a Danish couple’s young daughter, who threatens to reveal the affair with her boss. From one day to the next, the banker loses his house, wife, friends and job. Although the country is well known for its banks, very few Swiss features have dealt with the subject, which this film used to describe the perverse effects of neo-liberal ideals in the private sphere.
