Producers making a move in Cannes
by Vitor Pinto
For the seventh consecutive year, the members of European Film Promotion (EFP) have chosen a group of European producers to take part in Producers on the Move, which will be held during the upcoming Cannes International Film Festival (May 17 – 28).
Financially supported by the EU MEDIA programme, this PR campaign aims to promote and enhance cross-border collaborations between European production companies. Twenty-two producers will have the opportunity to present their latest projects to other filmmakers at a co-production lunch attended by 100 producers from all throughout Europe, and during round table meetings and pitching sessions. These activities and other meetings are expected to lay the foundations for potential co-productions, as has happened at past editions.
Previous examples of successful collaborations include Lars Von Trier's Dogville - which brought together the Netherland's Els Vandevorst and Norway's Turid Øversveen (Producers on the Move 2000) – and the German remake of FC Venus (set to open locally on April 27), which is the result of negotiations between 2004 Producers on the Move Ralph Schwingel (Wüste Film, Germany) and Jarkko Hentula (Talent House/now Juonifilmi Oy, Finland).
After the Passions and Promises interviews (2006 Rotterdam Film Festival) and the Shooting Stars collaboration (2006 Berlinale), Cineuropa is pleased to be associated with the Producers on the Move initiative and is currently publishing exclusive interviews with the selected producers (see dossier).
