Silver Gentiane for The Giant
The jury of the 54th Trento Film Festival has awarded the Silver Gentiane to Christian Frei’s The Giant Buddhas (Christian Frei Filmproduktionen, Zurich), already awarded a Silver Dove at the 2005 Dokfestival Leipzig. Frei’s previous film, War Photographer I, won him the Best Feature Documentary nomination at the 2002 Academy Awards.
Nominated for the 2006 Swiss Film Awards and presented to date at over twenty festivals, the film about the destruction of the Buddha statues in Afghanistan garnered almost 12,000 admissions in Switzerland and will be distributed in Germany this autumn by Kinostar.
