Simon Staho makes Daisy Diamond

by

Thirty-four year-old Danish filmmaker Simon Staho has just received DK 6m (€805,000) from the Danish Film Institute for his fourth feature film, Daisy Diamond, to be produced in Denmark by XX Film with Tju-Bang Film and Zentropa Entertainments in co-production with Sonet Filmin Sweden.

Co-written by Staho and Peter Asmussen, the film tells the story of Anna, whose dream it is to become an actress. Without telling her family, she travels to Copenhagen, hoping to make her dream come true. But things don’t quite turn out the way she wants and she becomes pregnant. Staho, a great actors’ director whose 2004 film Day and Night won a Silver Hugo for its ‘ensemble cast’ at the Chicago International Film Festival, has again put together a stellar cast for Daisy Diamond: Sofie Gråbøl, Trine Dyrholm, Beate Bille, Charlotte Munck, Stine Stengade, Sonja Richter, Lars Kaalund, Thure Lindhardt, Jens Albinus, Bent Mejding, Lotte Andersen, Laura Drasbæk, Kirsten Olesen, Bodil Jørgensen, Mikael Birkkjær and David Dencik will be joined by Sweden’s Noomi Rapace. Eric Kress will be the DoP, Janus Billeskov Jansen the editor and Joakim Holbek the music composer.
