Swiss-Turkish director wins award at Innsbruck
Famous for its Olympic Games, the Austrian town of Innsbruck is also renowned for cinema. From May 22 - 28, the International Film Festival Innsbruck welcomed a diverse range of films on Africa, Asia and Latin America.
At the event, Yusuf Yesilöz, a 42 year-old Swiss director and writer of Turkish origin, was awarded the Christian Berger Documentary Prize for Zwischen den Welten (Between Worlds), produced by Zurich-based Reck Film Production.
Following Güli Dogan, a young Kurdish woman who arrives in Switzerland at the age of 9, the director reveals with sensitivity the long and difficult road to successful integration. This award comes at a time when Switzerland has just deported the father and husband of a Turkish woman who was a victim of a forced marriage.
