Warsaw, a capital in 12 films

by

Rome and Warsaw: the image of the two capitals in their respective films. From June 6-14, Rome’s Cinema Trevi will present a film series conceived by Lorenzo Pompeo in collaboration with the Centro Sperimentale - Cineteca Nazionale, the Filmoteka Narodowa, the Instytut Adama Mickiewicza of Warsaw, CINIT (Italian cineforum) and the Polish Institute of Rome. A parallel film series was held in Warsaw on Rome and Italian cinema from April 20-30.

Following down the path opened by Italian neo-realism, thanks to the works of great directors (Wajda, Zanussi, Munk e Kieslowski), in Polish cinema, the screen has become the reflection of a city and its historical tragedies tied to WWII, as well as its post-war hopes, the fleeting well-being of the 1960s, the crisis of the 1970s, through to the latest chaotic transformation (still underway) following the collapse of the Communist regime.

The screenings, which will be attended by directors Krzysztof Zanussi (who will present 1996’s At Full Gallop - Cwał) and Dariusz Gajewski (who will present the 2003 film Warszawa), are an opportunity to get to know Polish cinema and, at the same time, a European capital full of charm.
