Cinema celebrated from Genoa to Sant'Agata
The historical Sivori Cinema, where in May of 1896 the first moving images captured by the Lumière brothers were screened, will host from today through July 2 the ninth edition of the Genoa Film Festival, which will present over 130 films, divided into eight sections (two of which are competitive). There will also be retrospectives on Vittorio Gassman and Ugo Tognazzi.
The 13th International Short Film Festival also kicked off today (and will run through July 2) in Capalbio (near Rome). The festival’s international competition features 36 films from 18 countries. Other programs also include a series of events dedicated to Roberto Rossellini.
From June 27-30, the festival Le parole dello schermo (lit. “Screen Words”) will focus on the relationship between literature and cinema, presenting films on a large screen in Bologna’s Piazza Maggiore. Guests include Terry Gilliam, Cristina Comencini, Bernardo Bertolucci, Dominique Sanda, Rutger Hauer, Ermanno Olmi and Marco Bellocchio.
Lastly, from June 30-July 9, Sant'Agata dei Goti will host the 10th edition of the Sannio Film Festival, the only European festival dedicated to period films.
