Tenerife Film Commission: Production boost

by

In the first semester of 2006, the Tenerife Film Commission (TFC) gave its support to the production of over 52 audiovisual works (short films, documentaries, TV films and advertisements included). The recently released data presents an augment of approximately 50% in comparison to the same period in 2005.

Ever since its creation in 2000, the TFC has offered its services to a total of 311 works. This success among production outfits seems to be explained by the island’s beautiful beaches and its privileged climate year-round.

This positive trend is expected to continue with at least two more important feature films scheduled to be partially shot in the region: El vuelo del guirre, directed by Teodoro brothers and Santiago Ríos, and Lucas Fernández's biopic Oscar, el color del destino, starring Joaquim de Almeida and Victoria Abril (see news).

In parallel, two film festivals also intend to contribute to the development of the local film and audiovisual sector. The second Historic Film Festival, which will take place in the city of Laguna (a World Heritage site) from October 17-21, will focus this year on Austrian composer Mozart, whereas DOCUSUR 2006, a new showcase dedicated to documentaries produced in southern countries, is set to open on October 22 in the region of Guía de Isora.
