Films by Christine Carrière, Jean-Marc Fitoussi, Michelange Quay, Céline Sciamma and Philippe Faucon are ready to start shooting. The Director General of the Centre National de la Cinématographie (CNC) Véronique Cayla has signed advances on receipts agreements for the five films, which have been approved by the commissions headed by Claude Durand.

Produced by Rectangle Productions, the third feature by Carrière, Darling, the shooting of which is currently underway in Paris, has been granted an advance of receipts of €380,000.

Starring Guillaume Canet and Marina Fois, the film depicts a couple whose life is affected by alcoholism and violence and marks the return of the director, who won four prizes at the 1994 Locarno Film Festival with Rosine and whose second feature, Who Plucked the Feathers Off the Moon?, picked up the C.I.C.A.E Award at the Cannes Directors’ Fortnight in 1999.

An advance of €420,000 was allocated to Philippe Faucon’s Dans la vie, produced by Istiqlal Films, the director’s company. The CNC has also granted a total of €1.35m to three features: €380,000 for La vie d’artiste by Jean-Marc Fitoussi, starring Sandrine Kiberlain, Denis Podalydes, Emilie Dequenne and Aure Atika (a Haut et Court production); €470,000 for the teenage comedy Naissance des pieuvres (lit. "Birth of Octopuses") by Céline Sciamma (Les Productions Balthazar) and €500, 000 for Eat, For This Is My Body by US director Michelange Quay (a Les Films à Un Dollar production).

Quay’s Haïti-based film stars Sylvie Testud and was presented in May as part of the Atelier at the Cannes Film Festival (read synopsis and director’s statement on the Cinéfondation site).
