Rutelli: Time for cinema reforms

by

The cultural industry is not an oxymoron. With this resourceful joke, Vice President and Minister of Culture Francesco Rutelli assured film professionals of the government’s "constant, transparent and passionate" commitment.

Speaking here in Venice at a debate organized by financial daily paper Il Sole 24 Ore entitled "Cinema italiano: la svolta possibile" (lit. “Italian cinema: A possible change”), Rutelli announced a film law that would lead, shortly thereafter, to new financial measures, funding resources and an extension of the distribution season.

"Creating a film law,” said the Minister, “means modifying Law 122 (on film financing from network broadcasters), legally defining the role of the independent producer, creating a national film agency cinema, and facing the problems of exhibition and arthouse cinemas. Lastly, the removing film from the (Visual Arts Fund): the time of pure welfarism is over".
