Ghent opens with Perfume: The Story of a Murderer

The Flanders International Film Festival in Ghent will be held this year from October 10-21. Eighteen German films and co-productions will be shown at the 33rd edition of the festival, where music as a dramaturgical element enjoys a particular importance.

Paul Smaczny's Knowledge is the Beginning (Wir Koennen den Hass Nur Verringern) was selected for Documentaries.

A Man's Got To Do What A Man's Got To Do by Harald Schleicher and Mr. Schwartz, Mr. Hazen & Mr Horlocker by Stefan Mueller will be presented in the Short Films section.

The Prix UIP 2005-2006 section will be showing the 13 winners from the Prix UIP competitions at various European festivals. They include the German shorts Delivery by Till Nowak and Vincent by Giulio Ricciarelli. Both of them will thus be in the running for this year's European Film Academy Short Film 2006 - Prix UIP, which features a monetary prize of €10,000.

Niemand Liebt Dich So Wie Ich by Luca Zamai will be competing in the 2006 Prix UIP Ghent for a place in the Prix UIP selection of 2006-2007.

Peer Raben will receive the Lifetime Achievement Award as part of the World Soundtrack Awards. The composer became known above all through his scores for the films of Rainer Werner Fassbinder.
