Trafalgar Square hosts LFF jubilee

by

Tonight, the world famous Trafalgar Square will host a unique visual celebration of the UK capital with the screening of A Portrait of London by several renowned UK filmmakers, including Mike Figgis, who was also creative director on the project specially commissioned to celebrate the jubilee year of the London Film Festival.

A Portrait of London is a series of digital snapshots of the UK capital, including works by John Boorman, who chose to tell the story of a woman falling in love with a camera in Hyde Park; and Ngozi Onwurah and her husband, cinematographer Alwin Kuchler, who decided to portray London as seen through the eyes of their adopted eight year-old Nigerian daughter.

One of Figgis' own segments was shot in the East of London to give a visual platform to a new original soundtrack by rapper Plan B and singer Killa Kela. The director of Leaving Las Vegas has been a fan of digital filmmaking since being introduced to the new technology in the late 1990s and used it for Time Code in 2000.
