TRAINING Poland

How to improve pre-production

by

Applications for the European training programme EKRAN, co-ordinated and organised by Andrzej Wajda Master School, are open until November 15.

EKRAN is aimed at film professionals and its principle objective is to improve work at the pre-production stage of a film through practical exercises.

Eligible candidates include professionals (from EU member states and partner countries) who have already made a feature or shorts. Since training will be provided in English, a good knowledge of the language is also required. The practical work of this training includes the production of two scenes from a script, as well as exercises in the area of visualisation strategies and casting. The class is organised in groups according to the model: the director/scriptwriter suggests a script or the director suggests a script and the scriptwriter with whom he wants to work; the director/scriptwriter presents other members of his team – a producer involved in the project and an operator (optional).

Once each group is complete, they make their film and receive artistic feedback from guest professionals that include some well-known film names such as Volker Schloendorff, Alexandre Sokourov, Wojciech Marczewski, Agnieszka Holland, Allan Starski, Krzysztof Zanussi, Edward Zebrowski, Lone Scherfig, Thomas Vinterberg, Per Fly, Morgens Rukov, Janos Szas, Ildiko Enyedi, Udayan Prasad and Marilyn Milerom.

EKRAN is a project by the Andrzej Wajda Master School in co-operation with FOCAL (Switzerland), Norwegian Film Development, the Danish Film Institute, Nordrhein-Westfalen Film Stiftung and Internationale Film Schule Koln (Germany) and the International Film School Wales (UK).
