The director, born in Göttingen in 1963, worked as a journalist and an artist before joining the prestigious Berlin Film and Television Academy in 1991, where he stayed for seven years. , a family drama with Jürgen Vogel, was the surprise hit of 2002 and won him six awards and six nominations.

His second feature Four Minutes, which was selected for the 2004 Baden-Württemberg Award for Best Screenplay even before going into production, is set in a woman's prison. An 80-year old former pianist (Monica Bleibtreu) provides encouragement to talented, 21 year-old Jenny (Hannah Herzsprung), and the two are forced to team up as best as they can.

The Kordes & Kordes Film production also stars Richy Müller, Jasmin Tabatabai, Vadim Glowna and Nadja Uhl and will be released through Piffl Medien Filmverleih in German cinemas on February 1, 2007.
