Over 200 films for BNFF’s 10th anniversary

The Black Night Film Festival (BNFF) has put together an exceptional programme for its 10th anniversary, set to take place between November 23-December 10 in the Estonian capital Tallinn as well as in Tartu, Viljandi, Narva, Jõhvi and Kärdla. Over 200 international films will screen in the main programme, including 20 feature films in the official competition EurAsia.

(Denmark), and Elmo Nüganen’s Mindless (Estonia) are some of the films that will compete for the festival’s Grand Prix, which comes with a €10,000 cash prize from the City of Tallinn.

Fourteen Estonian full-length fiction, documentary and animation films will screen in the other main competition programme, including the top grossing local animated film Lotte From Gadgetville [+see also:

by Finnish director AJ Annila and children’s film Ruudi by Katrin Laur.

The BNFF’s main programme, running from December 1-10, will also feature a Culture Gate Film programme with 22 new films from the EU member states, and nine Shooting Stars from the European Film Promotion initiative will be on hand as part of their tour of selected European film festivals.

Other events include a Focus on Italy (co-organised with the Italian Embassy in Tallinn and Filmitalia) and a tribute to Irish writer/filmmaker Neil Jordan who will also come to promote his new book Shade.

Three sub-festivals will complement the main programme: the "Animated Dreams" Film Festival (November 23-26), the "Just Film" Children and Youth Film Festival (November 25–December 2) and the “Sleepwalkers Student Film Festival” (November 26 –December 1).

Lastly, the annual Baltic Event (December 3-7) will offer producers opportunities to discuss new projects from the Baltic countries, Central and Eastern Europe, Russia and Scandinavia.
