All eyes on Private Fears in Public Places
The 12 new releases in French cinemas today – seven European features, three US productions, including the latest James Bond film Casino Royale and Saw 3 (forbidden for under 18s), as well as two Asian films – also include two Venice titles, Private Fears in Public Places and The Soldier’s Star.

Starring Sabine Azéma, André Dussollier, Lambert Wilson, Isabelle Carré, Laura Morante and Pierre Arditi, the Soudaine Compagnie and France 2 Cinéma production is a 10% co-production by Italian outfit Achab Film and received €350,000 in advances on receipts from the CNC, €500,000 from Eurimages and €420,000 from the Ile de France region.

film profile], the debut feature by Afghanistan-documentary director Christophe de Ponfilly, who sadly passed away in May. Selected in the Venice Days sidebar at this year’s Venice Film Festival (see article), the film, produced by Albert Films (75%) and German outfit NEF Filmproduktion (25%), was also backed by France 2 Cinéma and is being released on 30 screens through Les Films du Losange .

Starring Pascal Greggory, Aurélien Recoing, Hélène de Fougerolles and Marie-France Pisier and based on improvisation, the Films du Kiosque and Maï Production film is described by its distributor SND (63 screens) as a cross between a Pialat film and Dogme title The Celebration.
Meanwhile, ASC Distribution are distributing five prints of Windows on Monday [+see also:
