Uro and Sons add festival laurels

Uro, which first screened at the Cannes Film Festival’s Un Certain Regard, was awarded the FIPRESCI-Jury Prize for Best Northern Light Film at the Stockholm International Film Festival closing night ceremony last Saturday. The jury’s motivation was: “For a modern and original approach which turns a classic crime drama into a picture of contemporary urban life”.

Produced by Friland Film, the film has garnered over 176,616 admissions in Norway and is represented internationally by Rezo Films.

Other Swedish festivals and professionals will continue to offer a prominent platform for Norwegian films over the upcoming months, including the Göteborg Film Festival, which is planning a Special Focus on Norway next January-February, and distributor Triangel Film, which will organise with the Norwegian Embassy and the Norwegian Film Institute a Norwegian film week in Stockholm next March.

In Germany’s Mannheim-Heidelberg International Film Festival, Sons won the Rainer Werner Fassbinder Award. The jury’s comment was: “For an honest, strong and emotional directing approach to such a delicate topic”. The film, produced by Tordenfilm, is being sold by Bavaria Film International.
