Lespert to direct 24 mesures
by Fabien Lemercier
The 30 year-old actor-turned-director is bringing together a top European cast that includes Benoît Magimel, Lubna Azabal, Sami Bouajila (Best Actor at Cannes 2006 for Days of Glory [+see also:

film profile]) and Bérangère Allaux for the film, which he co-scripted with Yann Apperry.
Taking place over one night, 24 mesures recounts a chance encounter between four very different characters on a Christmas evening. Chance brings together taxi driver Didier (Magimel) and Helly (Azabal), a young mother trying to get custody of her son. Violent circumstances unite them with Marie (Allaux), who arrives in Paris from the country full of ambition. All three embark on an adventure towards the sea, where they meet jazz drummer Chris (Bouajila). The four end up having a kind of party, where each character finds unexpected encouragement from the others, temporarily escaping their difficulties in a fated encounter that will change their lives forever.
Produced by Wassim Béji and Yannick Bolloré for WY Productions (behind the production of 2004 short De retour, scripted by Lespert), 24 mesures has received co-production funding from MK2 Productions, who will handle the film’s theatrical release in the second half of 2007 and international sales.
The title also received scriptwriting support in 2005 from the Centre National de la Cinématographie (CNC).
The five-week shoot kicks off with one week in Paris, before heading to Rennes in Brittany for two weeks and then to Lille in the North of France.
