Welcome Romania
As of January 2007, Romania will become a member of the MEDIA Programme. Projects from Romania are allowed to participate in all MEDIA calls currently open, but will be evaluated and financed in 2007.
The recent expansion of the MEDIA Programme to include new countries began in June 2002, when Poland signed the "Memorandum of Understanding" in order to become a full programme member. Latvia, Estonia, Czech Republic, Bulgaria and Lithuania followed that same year.
In 2003, the Slovak Republic, Cyprus and Slovenia joined, with Switzerland then coming aboard, finally, in March of 2006. MEDIA desks have been established in all these new countries.
Other countries may join later, depending on negotiations with the European Commission. Accession negotiations have begun with Turkey and Croatia, for example.
