We Feed the World: Austrian Film of 2006

by

Erwin Wagenhofer can be proud to add the 2006 Austrian Cinema Prize under his Christmas tree along with the several awards won to date by his documentary We Feed the World.

The prize, presented by the Austrian Chamber of Commerce to producer Helmut Grasser of Allegro Film, each year awards one film for its artistic and commercial success.

We Feed the World is impressive because of the meticulousness with which it recounts what we eat in a globalised world, and its success among audiences, with 201,000 admissions since its release on September 30, 2005, a result with which its distributor, Michael Stejskal of Filmladen, is very pleased.

At the ceremony, Grasser told President of the Cinema and Audiovisual Federation Danny Krausz how happy he was to work with someone as serious as Wagenhofer (both in his research and directing) who also placed much importance on a dialogue with audiences after the film’s release.

Wagenhofer and Grasser are to collaborate once again on the upcoming documentary by the director, Money. This study, similar to that of We Feed the World, is expected to be ready next spring.
