Allen and Cruz to shoot in Barcelona

Penélope Cruz will star in the next, still untitled film by US director Woody Allen, principal photography of which is set to begin in Barcelona in the summer.

One of the most famous directors from New York City, which often appears as a character in its own right in his films, Allen traded in the Big Apple for London in his latest two works: the multi-award-winning Match Point [+see also:

. This time, however, the Catalan capital will host one of his plots.

The production will be headed by Jaume Roures for MediaPro, the company behind Manuel Huerga's Salvador [+see also:
film review

]
, which was also shot in Barcelona and featured a local and international cast. Besides Cruz, who will speak in Spanish and English, no other cast members have yet been disclosed.

Last year seems to have been a good one for the Goya-winning actress, who is competing for the Best Actress Oscar against Helen Mirren, Kate Winslet, Dame Judi Dench and Meryl Streep at the upcoming Academy Awards.

Almodóvar also confirmed earlier this week that Cruz – unlike Antonio Banderas – will definitely take part in his upcoming film, La piel que habito, a revenge tale loosely based on Thierry Jonquet's novel Mygale.
