In the starting blocks three days from the opening of the 57th Berlin International Film Festival, French sales outfit Celluloïd Dreams are planning to make the most of the European Film Market with many of their titles selected at the festival.

In the parallel sections, Celluloïd Dreams expect to do good business with documentaries Andy Warhol by Ric Burns (Panorama) and Darren Ashton’s Razzle Dazzle (Berlin Generation), as well as with Guy Maddin’s Brand Upon the Brain (Forum) and French animated feature U by directing duo Serge Elissalde and Gregoire Solotareff (Berlin Kinderfilmfest).

Important market screenings include Broken English by Zoe Cassavetes and documentaries Jack Smith and the Destruction of Atlantis by Mary Jordan and Jennifer Baichwal’s Manufactured Landscapes.

Although the outfit are still keeping their acquisitions under wraps, they have an impressive and extensive line-up. Along with such hit titles as I'm Not There by Todd Haynes and the English language remake of Funny Games by the film’s Austrian director Michael Haneke are two films that sold very well at Sundance: French co-production Garth Jennings’ Son of Rambow and Ian Iqbal Rashid’s How She Move.

Other titles worth a mention include Marjane Satrapi’s Persepolis (see news), UK director Asif Kapadia’s True North with Michelle Yeoh, and Canadian feature Emotional Arithmetic by France’s Paolo Barzman, starring Gabriel Byrne and Susan Sarandon.

Two young European directors join the Celluloïd Dreams line-up: Salvatore Mereu with Sonetaula, a production between Italy (Lucky Red), France (Haut et Court) and Belgium (Artémis Productions), and Sylvie Verheyde with Sang froid (lit. “Cold Blood”), featuring Laura Smet and singers Benjamin Biolay and Stomy Bugsy in a joint production by Arte, Gloria Films and Les Films du Veyrier.
