- After the closure of FilmFour, Puttnam suggests a Ch4, BBC, Film Council joint venture
The British film industry is reeling after the expected but nonetheless shocking announcement of the closure and subsequent transformation of Channel 4´s ground-breaking film production and distribution arm, FilmFour. But industry insiders, like Oscar-winning (1982´s Moments of Glory) producer and deputy head of BAFTA (British Academy of Film & Television Arts), David Puttnam are already at work to find a solution to the distribution problems the closure of FilmFour´s specialist arm will bring. In an interview with yesterday´s «Guardian», Puttnam went for the «United we stand...» strategy and suggested an alliance between FilmFour´s owners,Channel 4, the BBC and the British Film Council to ensure the distribution of British productions. This joint venture would benefit from an annual budget of between €45m and €60m.
