Feltrinelli moves into theatres

by

The historical Milan-based editing company Gruppo Feltrinelli is expanding its interests in the film world with the acquisition of 51% of Finaval, a real estate holding with land and residential and office buildings throughout Italy, valued at approximately €80m.

Feltrinelli thus seems to be setting its sights on multiplexes, even if the report from the board of directors at the partners’ meeting only mentioned moving in a direction that "includes involvement in new synergetic sectors such as cinema", buying rights through the controlled company Eskimosa for the production and distribution of features and documentaries.

Currently, Eskimosa is developing the €800,000 documentary Dawaz: la fune sul mare (lit. “Dawaz: The Rope Over the Sea”) with RAI Cinema, which is being directed by Domenico Distilo.

The company will further cover 10% of the new €5m film by Mario Martone, Noi credevamo (lit. “We Believed”), produced by RAI Cinema with France and Switzerland.

In the meantime, Eskimosa is releasing – in selected theatres in Milan, Naples, Turin, Florence, Udine, Genoa, Pordenone, Modena, Bologna, Savona and Rome – the political documentary Checosamanca (also co-produced with RAI), a collective work made by young filmmakers Andrea D'Ambrosio, Enrico Cerasuolo, Andrea Segre, Francesco Cressati, Martina Parenti, Nicola Zucchi, Marco Berrini, Sergio Fergnachino and Chiara Bellosi.
