In Germany – where it was released on over 100 prints through Schwarz Weiss Filmverleih – the 2007 Swiss Film award winner has attracted over 230,000 filmgoers and is still playing on 61 screens. Murer’s latest feature is showing in seven theatres in Austria, where it has clocked up almost 18,000 admissions to date.
This month, five new Swiss films will conquer cinemas in the two neighbouring German-speaking countries (see news).
Box office hit Vitus – which recently opened in francophone Switzerland after drawing 200,000 admissions in the German-speaking part of the country – has, as expected, now taken German and Austrian cinemas by storm.
Sold to 30 countries, the title will soon be released in North America through Sony Classics and in Japan through Tokyo Theatres.
