PRODUCTION Denmark

Zentropa "regional funding"

by

- Copenhagen's prolific producer, Peter Allbaek Jensen, calls for more money for regional films

While the Danish film industry waits with great expectation to see if the new FilmFyn will successfully become Denmark’s main base for film production, Peter Aalbaek Jensen at Zentropa is putting a lot of emphasis on strengthening regional film funds in Denmark. In an interview with the student film magazine Ordet, he speaks about the different view regional filmmakers have in their approach when telling a story based on their own experiences, so often differing dramatically from the stories expressed by urban directors. Jensen points out the importance of giving the 4/5 part of Danes who live outside Copenhagen a chance to make films about their every day lives and express themselves the way they think.
Zentropa is one of the main supporters of a new film company in the region of Jylland called Jutlandia and has recently co-produced a film for children Anton made entirely in Árhus, a small city in Denmark, giving the film a quite new perspective as expressed by Jensen originally. Another production in process by Jutlandia is directed by Aage Rais who lives and works in Arhus. The film To ryk og en aflevering is funded by the East Jylland Film Fund and the Danish Film Fund, making Rais able to film in his own region and to work with local actors.
